Browning, Elizabeth Barrett  (1806 – 1861)
English Poet. Born in Durham, England. She was an accomplished reader and writer at a young age. Devastated by the drowning death of her favorite brother she became somewhat of an invalid and recluse. Her poems became popular in 1844 and caught the eye of Robert Browning who eventually became her husband.
