Cannon, Joseph Gurney  (1836 – 1926)
American Politician. Born in Guilford County, Illinois. Representative from Illinois. Speaker, U. S. House of Representatives, 1893-1910. State's attorney for the Twenty-Seventh judicial district of Illinois from 1861 to 1868; elected as a Republican Congressman, 1873-91. Nominee at the Republican National Convention at Chicago in 1908; elected to the Sixty-fourth and to the three succeeding Congresses (1915-1923).
