Cooper, Peter  (1791 – 1883)
American Manufacturer and Philanthropist. Born in New York City, New York. He designed and built the first American locomotive (Tom Thumb ) in 1830. He founded Cooper Union, which provided free classes in science, chemistry, electricity, engineering and art.
