Dunbar, Paul Lawrence  (1872 – 1906)
American Poet. Born in Dayton, Ohio. The son of escaped Negro slaves, he gained his first recognition in 1896 with the publication of Lyrics of Lowly Life. His works appeared in Harper's Weekly, the Saturday Evening Post and a number of other well known magazines.
