Frederick II [The Great]  (1712 – 1786)
King of Prussia. Born in Berlin, Prussia (later known as Germany). He was a skillful leader and instituted many social reforms by liberalizing laws on censorship, religion and torture. He was noted for his love of literature, especially that of French origin.
