Hofmann, Joseph  (1870 – 1956)
Polish Pianist and Composer. Born in Cracow, Poland, Austria-Hungary on January 20, 1876. He learned to play the piano in infancy under the direction of his father. In 1887 he came to the United States and began a concert tour which was stopped by the intervention of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children. He made two concert tours in America and Europe. He was the director and instructor of piano at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia and composer of concertos, piano pieces, symphonies and orchestra suites.
